Ingredients

  • 1 pound Jimmy Dean pork sausage
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream or whole milk
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 package frozen tater tots approximately 24 oz
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Begin by preheating the oven to 375°F and greasing a 9 x 13-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the sausage, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. Once fully browned, drain any excess fat and set the sausage aside.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream (or whole milk), salt, garlic powder, and black pepper until well combined.
  • Spread an even layer of frozen tater tots across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the cooked sausage evenly over the tater tots, followed by the shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Pour the whisked egg mixture over the cheese and sausage, ensuring the liquid is evenly distributed across the dish.
  • Cover the casserole with aluminum foil to prevent the edges from cooking too quickly.
  • Bake for 40 minutes, then remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the center of the casserole is fully set. Be sure to check around the 40-45 minute mark, as oven times may vary.
  • Once done, serve hot and pair with sour cream, salsa, fresh tomatoes, or crispy bacon for added flavor.

Notes

If your frozen tater tots come in a 32 oz bag, you may have some leftover after assembling the casserole.
