Ingredients

  • 1 16-ounce package Little Smokies (see notes)
  • Poppy seeds for garnish (optional, see notes)
  • 2 packages crescent rolls see notes

Instructions

  • Set the oven to preheat at 350°F and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Open one tube of crescent rolls and divide it into individual triangles, then slice each triangle into three smaller portions using a sharp knife. Wrap each small triangle around a Little Smokie, positioning the seam underneath on the prepared baking sheet, and scatter poppy seeds over the tops if desired. Continue wrapping the remaining Little Smokies with the rest of the crescent dough. Transfer the baking sheet to the oven and bake for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the dough turns golden and puffs beautifully. Present warm for best enjoyment.

Notes

Crescent rolls: The refrigerated crescent dough triangles are conveniently pre-cut; simply divide each triangle into three to fit each sausage perfectly. Biscuit dough or puff pastry are good alternatives. For a more hands-on approach, homemade crescent rolls may be used.

Little Smokies: If Little Smokies or cocktail sausages are unavailable, substitute by slicing standard hot dogs into quarters. For a larger variation, wrap entire hot dogs to create a satisfying hybrid between a corn dog and a classic hot dog.

Poppy seeds: An optional flourish adding a subtle crunch to the baked pastry.

Yield: Produces approximately 40 pieces, perfect for parties and potlucks.

Storage: Keep leftovers covered and refrigerated for up to four days.
