Ingredients

  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 Tbsp fresh basil or parsley finely minced, plus additional for garnish
  • 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 medium yellow onion chopped (about 1/2 cup)
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 3 garlic cloves finely minced

Instructions

  • Set a medium saucepan over medium heat and pour in the olive oil; once heated, add the chopped onion and cook, stirring frequently, until it becomes tender and lightly golden, approximately 5 minutes. Introduce the minced garlic and sautĂ© for 1 minute until its aroma intensifies. Blend in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and pepper; bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer partially covered for 15 minutes. Stir in the freshly minced basil, remove from heat, and garnish as desired.

Notes

To store, allow the marinara to cool to room temperature, then transfer to an airtight container; refrigerate for up to 5 days or freeze for as long as 3 months.
